Baking Again

Posted June 23rd, 2011 @ 01:06pm by: Kathie Armstrong

I didn't realize that I had missed baking.....I baked for a living 15 years ago out of my own kitchen that was commercial in my home. I supplied 4 grocery stores with my bread, 3 in Canada and 1 in the States. I lived in Canada back then. I was always an early riser so I just started baking bread to keep busy in those early hours and it just lead to a business.

This is just like falling off a log for me. I still get up early so I just come to the store any time after 3:00  a.m. and start baking. We have had the bakery open 3 weeks today and what is so amazing is that we already have regulars that come everyday or every other day for their special treats and bread. That is so reassuring that I am doing something right.

This is a huge learning curve again, by adding this whole other addition to the store it is like starting all over in some respects. Figuring out what people want how to get it all done and at what time and when should we be open. I have changed my hours twice already and I am going to change them again after yesterday. I was open at 8:00 for the phone guy and people kept coming in. I haven't been open until 9:00 just because I didn't have everything done but if I am here I may as well be open, so from now on if I am here the door is pretty much open any time around 7ish.....to cater to the early people going to work. If you want me open earlier just call and I will let you in.

This is fun and exciting and scarey all at the same time. I need to learn on the job and give people what they want so they will come back.

I believe that people are hungry not only for delicious food, which I try very hard to give them, they want things done the old fashioned way that brings memories and childhood back to them and it makes them feel good. I truly am an old fashioned girl who was raised by a Mother who stayed home and did everything herself to make our home special with her baking cleaning and love. I did the same for my children when they were growing up and it is a good feeling to be able to be doing it again and to give it to you my customers. I want you to experience comfort and pleasure when you are here in my shop and feel good when you leave.

I love what I do and I want to share it with you.....come and enjoy some old fashioned cooking that will put a smile on your face.
